SAFE VOYAGE (3:35 Haydock) steps up to Group 3 level for the first time in Saturday’s feature race, the John Of Gaunt Stakes, and we’re confident he can take it in his stride.
The son of Fast Company has been a fantastic horse for John Quinn, winning eight of his 18 races, including four of his last five. He has struck up a real love affair with Haydock too, as the now 6YO is unbeaten in three visits to the Merseyside course, all over Saturday’s trip of 7f. The ground is likely to be soft, which is another positive for Jason Hart’s mount and while he will need a career best to win this, there’s no doubt he’s improving at a rate of knots and should take all the beating.
PREJUDICE (1:45 Haydock) returned to action off the back of a 203-day break with a very pleasing effort at Newbury and although the re-opposing Alhaazam and Gantier were ahead of him on that occasion, he’s fancied to turn the tables here.
The son of Dubawi was trying 11f for the first time and travelled best for a long way before tiring late on. The step up in trip looks a positive move for this brother to the prolific Postponed who won’t mind the soft ground and looks well-handicapped off 96.
Willie Mullins is a master of placing his horses and he’s found a very winnable Group 3 for the winning machine, TRUE SELF (2:25 Haydock). The daughter of Oscar was very impressive at Newmarket at the back-end of last season and did what she had to do in the Vintage Tipple at Gowran Park on her reappearance. That will have blown away the cobwebs and she looks NAP material in the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes.
