CORAL ambassador Jim Crowley was in magnificent form at Chelmsford on Saturday with a 372/1 five-timer at the Essex track. Having been turned-over on the 8/15f Seductive in the opener, Crowley could have been forgiven for thinking that it might not be his day.
However, in typical resilient fashion, he booted home Thammin (7/1) in the next for his boss, Hamdan Al Maktoum, before following up on Mekong (3/1c), Margub (1/3f), Spring Praise (6/4f) and New Street (5/2). Ever the perfectionist, the former Champion Jockey rued his missed opportunities, despite it being the most successful meeting of his career to date.
“I’ve ridden six winners in a day but that’s the first time I’ve had five at one meeting,” he said.
“It could’ve been more – the two horses I thought were my best chances finished second so it was a bit disappointing.”
Crowley stole the show at Goodwood on Friday aboard the lightening quick Battaash, but his decision to ride at Chelmsford certainly turned out to be a shrewd one.
Well done Jim, from all at the Coral Champions Club!
